Why Steven Pienaar is an typical Harry Redknapp signing

Harry Redknapp is known at every club he has been at as a manager who can buy quality players for a relatively cheap price and be able to get the most out of these bargain buys.

Steven Pienaar signed for Tottenham for £2.5 million. An absolute bargain for such an accomplished versatile attacker. Pineaar is naturally an attacking left winger, the position which he was most successful with Everton. But he can also play on the right wing or in central attacking midfield role.

Pienaar is a player who will fit perfectly into the Spurs system. As he has the pace, the ability to run with the ball and a tidy finish. Furthermore, Spurs play a progressive attacking formation. Where off the ball runs are integral. Pineaar has the ability to thread ball’s into his team mates, but also knows how to get into scoring positions.

One thing most people should expect is that Pienaar won’t instantly be a first team starter. The fantastic form of Bale, Van der Vaart and even Lennon will keep Pienaar out of the side. However, coming off the bench the South African will be an impact substitute, due to his creative ability and pace. However, looking at how impressive the bench is already for Spurs, Pienaar gives the whole Spurs squad even more depth.

However, if the likes of Bale, Lennon or even Van der Vaar get injured or lose form. Pienaar can come into the side and bring a substantial contribution. Harry Redknapp is brilliant at finding great players for bargains. The deal for Pienaar is no different. As you can be sure whether coming on from the bench or even starting, Pienaar can add a creative spark whether its by creating or finishing in the final third.

Harry Redknapp doesn’t like being called a ‘wheeler and dealer.’ But he has managed to get Spurs such a fantastic deal. Redknapp in £2.5 million has brought a player who will add even more depth and quality to his fantastic squad. Pienaar’s transfer to Spurs, reminds me of Kranjar’s transfer to Spurs. As Kranjar came for around £2 million and added more depth and more creative spark for Spurs. And even now Spurs fans can expect Kranjar to come on or start, and still add quality to their team.

The typical aspects of Harry Redknapp’s signing of Pienaar is that it’s a deal which is clearly value for money. Pineaar offers so much quality for £2.5 million. Spurs most probably have got the signing of this January transfer window. But, there’s over a week left. Anything can happen in football!
